We arrived at BKK airport at around 1430hrs (BKK time) and took a taxi to Royal Asia Lodge which is about 10 -15 mins walk from Nana BTS. The place feels like a budget hotel where many westerners chose to live at. We paid SGD42/night with complimentary breakfast. It's more suitable for a laidback backpacker style of accommodation. The check-in service was relatively slow and the room we had, did not have water heater and the window pane was faulty. As I said, it's a budget hotel that we chose. At least, it was relatively quiet and everyone was in their own travelling world. Oh, Royal Asia Lodge offers a 24-hr free Tuk Tuk service out to the main road!
We wanted to start off the trip with a good body massage and decided to walk around the nearby streets before settling down at a cheap massage parlour. In fact, most shops offer about the same rates. Along our way, the tempting street foods caught our attention. We bought and ate as we walked, enjoying the food and environment. We finally settled at the massage parlour along the road from our hotel. Lydia and I had a traditional body massage while Nic decided to pass and went for a drink nearby. As many say, it's a must to go for thai massage when you are at BKK. When we were done, Nic took us to this street stall and said the crepe was damn nice. It's like our local egg prata with condensed milk and sugar at the top. Totally sinful but shiok! =D
We then took the BTS to Siam Station where Siam Paragon is located. The shopping mall is quite spacious and feels pretty much like our local Paragon. We settled for dinner at a Japanese restaurant at the basement. Food and price were reasonable. The malls were brightly lit in view of the upcoming Christmas. It's a human nature to take pictures of pretty things. We too, joined in the crowd to take photos with the decorations. We had wanted to take a look at the Ocean World located within Siam Paragon but a pity we were too late.
Next up, it was shopping at Patpong, just off Sala Daeng. It was basically a permanent night market where they sell accessories, clothes, shoes and decorations. There are plenty of stalls, definitely more than 100 over. We bought bags, clothes, shoes, bedside foldable lamps, photoclips and bookmarks there. There was simply too much for us to resist. Patpong is also known as the sex district. Of course we were being pestered to see the famous pingpong show etc. But we didnt cos we had heard plenty of stories about such.
