Thailand - Day 1: Bangkok (31 Oct 2014)

Bangkok revisited. It was my 2nd time in BKK, first trip was in Dec 2010.

BKK is ideal if you are looking for places with cheap and good food with shopping possibilities! For this trip, there were only 2 of us. We were lucky to have bought relatively cheap tickets (two-way) to BKK via SQ at only SGD 237.30 each. It was only about $50 (or less) more expensive than the budget airlines so of course we went for SQ because they have in-flight entertainment, meals and free check-in baggage! Being me, I always prefer to take morning or midnight flights so as to maximise the time spent in the foreign country.
------------

Total Damages (per pax)
Air Tickets: SGD 273.30
Accommodation: SGD 81.20 (for 3 nights)

Souvenirs: SGD 100
Personal expenses: SGD 200
Total: SGD 773.50

Day 1 - 31 Oct (Fri)
We boarded the 7.15am flight and arrived at 8.40am BKK time (they are 1 hour behind SIN time). After picking our bags, we went to get data plans because we are typical Singaporeans. We need our phones! I bought the AIS 3G data plan for 299 Baht, which comes with 7-day unlimited internet, and free 100 Baht for talk and text.

Our in-flight breakfast.
We then took the taxi to Citadines Sukhumvit 8 Bangkok. The journey took us about 45 mins to reach (By meter: 490 Baht). We were much earlier than the stipulated check-in time of 2pm but they allowed us to do early check-in since our room was ready! :) We got ourselves the Studio Executive, which is just right for both of us.

[Pardon the messiness as these pictures were taken only on the morning that we left.]

After checking in, we took the free tuktuk service from our hotel to the nearest BTS station: Nana.

On board the free tuktuk service!
We went to Terminal 21 (BTS: Asok) to grab lunch. We were spoilt for choices as there are too many restaurants and eateries. Our first meal in BKK ought to be Thai food! Heh. I can't remember the restaurant's name but the food is not bad! Mine was chicken curry with Thai Saffron rice.

Us with our food.

After lunch, we headed to Platinum Fashion Mall and Pratunam Market (BTS: Chit Lom) for shopping. The BTS does not bring you directly to the malls. We had to cut through the other malls and walk quite a distance (about 10 mins) before arriving at our destination. Platinum Fashion Mall is known for wholesale shopping. Hence, buying in larger quantities would guarantee a cheaper unit price. And of course, we have to use our price slashing skills to get the best offers for ourselves!

Because of the change in weather, we couldn't go to Talad Rot Fai. We went to Siam Paragon and Central World (BTS: Siam) instead. Did more shopping (& some window shopping) and had our dinner there before ending our night.
